A Tandem Jump is the easiest and safest way to experience the exhilaration of making your first skydive. You can feel secure in the knowing that you are harnessed to a highly trained, certified instructor, so you are free to focus on enjoying the experience.
REMEMBER YOUR FIRST TIME!
Whether this will be your one and only, or your first of many, you will never have another first jump from an airplane. We highly recommend having your jump captured on film. We'll leave you to read about making a Tandem Skydive, but click on the button below to find out more about including Video and Still Photography for your skydive.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Upon arrival at Skydive Phoenix Inc, you will watch a short, but comprehensive video and complete the sign-up process. You will then be assigned an instructor and airplane load.
As take-off approaches and your palms become increasingly sweaty, your instructor will put you in a harness and provide the brief training necessary to ensure your skydive will be safe and enjoyable.
When it is time, you will board the aircraft with your instructor for the ride to jump altitude. As it nears time to open the door and exit the aircraft, you will be attached to your instructor at four points - 2 on the shoulders and 2 on the hips. The instructor will walk you through the hook-up process and safety checks, then review the exit procedures, most of which you will have already forgotten (it’s ok though, that’s why we go through them again).
Once you have exited the aircraft, the screaming generally lasts for 3-5 seconds. Opening your eyes, you will realize it’s really happening - you will be falling face to earth at 120MPH! Your instructor will do a couple of turns, giving you a full 360 degree view, including the Phoenix Skyline, Camelback Mountain, and Four-Peaks - it really is the ultimate observation deck. Between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, the parachute will be deployed, which will begin a 4-7 minute ride to the landing area.
Your instructor will quickly ensure the canopy has opened and is fully functional. During the canopy ride, how many turns and how fast they are is completely up to you. Whenever possible, your instructor will give you control of the parachute and assist you in steering toward the landing area.
As the ground approaches, your instructor will tell you to lift your legs in order to avoid a poorly executed 4-legged race upon touch-down. You will hold your legs up until the instructor pulls down on the control toggles and you slide in for landing.
You will be unhooked from the instructor, at which point you are free to kiss the ground and run over to tell your friends and family all about what you will describe as "the craziest thing ever" and/or "the most insane thing I've ever done", and/or "the...omg...I...that was...when we...then we...omg, that was amazing!"
Your instructor will be there to answer any questions, and present you with a certificate as proof of your accomplishment.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
The training and jump can be completed in as little as 1.5-2 hours, but we recommend planning for up to a half-day to account for possibly inclement weather or other variables.
WHAT TO WEAR
Tandem Jumps are made in street clothes and tennis shoes, we supply a jumpsuit and goggles.
